At Trade Aid, we love sharing stories of fair trade innovation – and this one’s a beauty. Last week CafĂ© William completed their second cargo sailboat shipment of fair trade coffee, carrying beans from our partners at ANEI Coffee in Colombia all the way to North America.
Instead of travelling on a traditional container ship, this coffee crossed the ocean powered entirely by the wind. 🌬️ The result? A huge reduction in carbon emissions and a bold reminder that sustainable coffee shipping isn’t just a dream – it’s happening right now.
For the ANEI coffee farmers of Colombia, who are deeply committed to organic farming and fair trade principles, this milestone adds another layer of meaning. Their coffee doesn’t just sustain livelihoods and communities – it now reaches coffee drinkers in a way that protects the planet too.
Stories like this show what makes fair trade coffee different. It’s not only about paying farmers fairly and building strong communities, but also about reimagining the entire supply chain – from farm to cup, and now, from port to port.
Café William’s sailboat shipments are proof that businesses can go beyond “business as usual.” By reducing carbon emissions, supporting fair trade farmers, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, they’re charting a new course for coffee and for global trade.
Less carbon. More creativity. Real commitment to people and planet. That’s fair trade coffee in action.
