Trade Aid is New Zealand’s major supplier of fair trade, organic green coffee beans. We source a wide and varied range of fair trade green coffee beans from small- scale coffee producers in nine different countries. This month we are excited to launch a limited edition, single origin organic coffee from The Democratic Republic of Congo.
In the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, SOPACDI (translated as Farmer Solidarity for the Promotion of Coffee and Integral Development) is a cooperative made up of many ethnic groups in a country which has been devastated by violence and poverty. These farmers, though they speak many different languages, are united in one vision: to improve their families’ lives and their communities through coffee.
Using the proceeds from the sale of their coffee, they have built coffee nurseries, offices, a cupping lab and two washing stations. SOPACDI offers its farmers access to education, which enables them to take measures to combat soil erosion, plant new seedlings from the cooperative nurseries and learn about organic composting and mulching.
This single origin organic coffee is rich and full bodied, with full, well rounded acidity, juicy berry fruit flavours and a long, lingering cocoa aftertaste.
Available in both ground and beans, exclusively from Trade Aid stores nationwide, and online.
