This adorable doe and baby rabbit is hand carved from kisii soapstone. Kisii soapstone is mined by hand from quarries in Western Kenya. Carvers cut the large rocks into smaller pieces, then chisel a rough shape into the stone. Women then sand wash the stone pieces, polish and paint them. The stone carvers of Kisii are one of many craft groups working alongside Trade Aid’s partner, Undugu Fair Trade.
