Using simple equipment such as a container on a gas stove and moulds, these tealight candles are created by skilled artisans. Firstly paraffin is boiled and perfume and colour is added if required. The candle wick is dipped in the boiled paraffin, then stripped off again with a rag, to make it straight, then cut to length. The boiled paraffin is poured into moulds and left to begin setting before the candle wick is added and the wax is shaped to suit. Once the paraffin is completely set, it can be removed from the mould and additional decoration can then be added before the final packaging stage of production. These candles from Y Development in Thailand come packaged in a handmade paper box and are made by villagers in Chiangmai.
