This beautiful cotton wall hanging has the word peace outlined with lilac and blue hand embroidered flowers and green leaves, it hangs from a wooden rod and cotton string. The embroidery technique is over a thousand years old and is being kept alive by a group of Catholic nuns who started up a sewing and embroidery centre in the 1980’s. Hand made by skilled artisans working with St Mary’s Mahila Shikshan Kendra, a fair trade organisation in India.

St Mary’s teaches rural women who have migrated to the city of Ahmedabad, in western India, to use their traditional Kathiawadi style of embroidery and mirror work to generate essential income.
