This small kettledrum has a clay body, decorated with a hand painted squiggle design, and a leather skin, it comes with a drumstick and can be tuned by the metals rings on the tensioning strings. It has a rather pleasant sound. This type of drum is a descendant of the Middle Eastern Naqqareh, courtesy of the Mughal Emperors (The same instrument also surfaced in mediaeval Europe as the Naker, which evolved into the military kettledrum and then the orchestral timpani in time). Hand crafted by skilled artisans working with Equitable Marketing Association (EMA), one of our fair trade partners in India.
This is a handmade instrument. Musical tones may vary.
