Mithila art is an ancient traditional art originating around 3,000 years ago. This art depicts everyday life and activities of the Maithili people, and also expresses their religious figures in symbolic ways. This unique, traditional art can be seen in most Maithili households in the Mithila region, Southern Terai of Nepal. Mainly women create this art, and it is passed on from one generation to another in every family in Maithili society.
