This colourful stone heart box has a coil design on the lid, it is hand carved from kisii stone and coloured with water based paints. Kisii soapstone is mined by hand from quarries in Western Kenya. Carvers cut the large rocks into smaller pieces, then chisel a rough shape into the stone. Women then sand wash the stone pieces and polish them. Each heart box is at least two hours work. The stone carvers of Kisii are one of many craft groups working alongside Trade Aid’s partner, Undugu Fair Trade.
