This stone candle holder is carved from Kisii soapstone which is mined from one of six quarries in Western Kenya. Miners work in the quarries in four-hour shifts, mining the stone by hand. They chisel the pieces loose and lift the rocks to the top of the mine with metal chains. Carvers cut the large rocks into smaller pieces, then chisel a rough shape into the stone. Women then sandwash the stone pieces and polish them. A clear wax is then applied to accentuate the stone’s natural lustre.
The stone carvers of Kisii are one of the many craft groups working with Undugu in Kenya.

Instructions for use: Place holder on a flat heat resistant surface. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from draughts, open windows, high movement areas & out of reach of children & pets. Keep away from flammable objects. Do not move holder or candle while lit. This unit may become hot after use so take care when handling.
