This elephant is made from recycled brass using a metal casting technique called Dhokra that has been used in India for over 4000 years.
To create this elephant a figure is first carved from wax which then has a clay mold made around it. The wax is melted and removed from the mold to be used again, and the recycled brass is poured into the shape left by the wax figure. They clay is chipped away to reveal the finished elephant, therefore a new mold must be created each time making each Dhokra item unique.
