This elephant is handmade from recycled brass using a metal casting technique called Dhokra that has been used in India for over 4000 years. To create this elephant a figure is first carved from wax which then has a clay mould made around it. The wax is melted and removed from the mould to be used again, and the recycled brass is poured into the shape left by the wax figure. They clay is chipped away to reveal the finished elephant, therefore a new mould must be created each time making each Dhokra item unique. Hand crafted by skilled artisans working with Sasha, one of our fair trade partners in India.
