It’s World Fair Trade Day. Join us in taking action against Modern Slavery.
World Fair Trade Day takes place on 14th May 2022. Organised by the World Fair Trade Organization, the aim is to raise awareness about how fair trade benefits people and the planet.
Fair trade is one way we can combat modern slavery in our supply chains. No one should benefit from slavery. Not brands and not consumers. Yet, they do. We do. New Zealand families are estimated to spend $34 a week on products tainted with slavery.
In 2022 New Zealanders have a chance to change this. For the first time, the New Zealand government is planning legislation that would require businesses trading in New Zealand to know what is in their products. New Zealanders will now have the chance to speak up against modern slavery by making a submission. A submission is your chance to present your opinions, observations, and recommendations on what the government is proposing.
This is a chance for Kiwi consumers to have their voices heard, creating change for the people who make our products.
Head into your nearest Trade Aid store and add your voice. We are celebrating World Fair Trade Day by opening submissions for customers at all of our stores from today until the end of May.
If you prefer to submit online, you can make your submission here. #submittosupport to make slavery in our products history.
Trade Aid is accredited by the World Fair Trade Organization’s (WFTO) Guarantee System, the first international fair trade system that verifies organisations’ compliance with all principles of fair trade. We are part of a world wide family of fair traders who are all going to celebrate on this day around the world. New Zealand opens the celebrations since we are first to see the sun.
