Despite difficult weather, two weeks ago Trade Aid and World Vision, along with many supporters, took action against modern slavery and presented a 37,000 strong petition to Parliament!
Minister Michael Wood has committed to action by assembling an advisory group to be led by Rob Fyfe. We’re on the way towards a Modern Slavery Act in New Zealand. This will make a massive difference and we’re proud to have made this vital movement happen. We are pleased to announce that Trade Aid, along with World Vision, will be part of this Advisory Group.
We want to thank everyone who signed, who spoke to staff about the issue in our stores, who turned out and helped spread the word across the country. Also, a massive shout out to the many diverse organisations who helped bring their collective voice to this issue, to all our wholesalers and business partners that joined this movement and finally to the 112 kiwi businesses across the country who supported an Open Letter.
We have collectively used the power of the pen to make our voices heard. We look forward to working with government to make this legislation happen. So, watch this space…
