We are excited to release our newest organic chocolate variety to complement our New Zealand made range of fair trade chocolate.
Milk Hazelnut Organic Chocolate is an enticing combination of smooth, creamy milk chocolate and locally-grown, roasted hazelnut pieces.
Milk Hazelnut Organic Chocolate is the delicious result of months of trials and testing with our loyal fanbase. Our milk chocolate contains 40% cocoa solids so it’s rich and smooth in in taste. When combined with organic New Zealand milk powder and golden cane sugar, it packs a little more punch than a standard milk chocolate recipe. The wholesome hazelnuts we use are locally grown and roasted in the South Island, on small organic farms. Milk Hazelnut Organic Chocolate will delight those of us who love their chocolate rich in taste and nutty in flavour.
We make our chocolate here in New Zealand, in central Christchurch at the Sweet Justice Chocolate Factory. In 2014 we seized the opportunity to manufacture our own chocolate, so we opened the Sweet Justice Chocolate Factory, and became the world’s first fair trade organisation to manufacture 100% fair trade guaranteed organic chocolate. Today we continue to put our hearts into making pure and delicious chocolate for all New Zealanders, for both the local retail and wholesale market.
Big aspirations since 1973
In 1973, when we started Trade Aid in Christchurch, we aspired to make the world a better place through fair trade. The issues that motivated us then are as important as ever today. Through the years we’ve built personal, long-term relationships with the farmers who grow our cocoa and sugar, so that we can ensure the quality of the ingredients and fair returns for the producers’ labour. Direct, fair trade partnerships enable the farmers to enhance their businesses, their communities and their lives.
We’re not a bean-to-bar manufacturer. We believe that our trading partners should retain as much value as possible in the supply chain. Cocoa farmers across the globe are striving to gain a greater share of the value of their product, by transforming their raw harvest into something of higher-value, which gives greater return than if they were selling unprocessed cocoa beans or sugar cane. So, wherever possible, we buy our cocoa and sugar from groups who are able to manufacture semi-processed products, such as cocoa liquor, cocoa butter and granulated sugar, and these are the ingredients that come together in our factory to make Trade Aid chocolate.
And not surprisingly, the sugar in our chocolate is just as inspiring as the cocoa. Traditional organic methods are used to grow the cane. The sugar is golden in colour, and only lightly refined, retaining a hint of molasses in its taste.
Good for people and planet
Trade Aid chocolate bars look beautiful, taste delicious, and are kind the planet. That’s because our bars, blocks and chocolate-coated nut range are all wrapped in home compostable packaging, manufactured in New Zealand, which breaks down in your home compost or worm farm. So when you enjoy Trade Aid chocolate, nothing goes to waste!
Trade Aid chocolate is certified organic, gluten free and is the only locally made, organic, fair trade guaranteed chocolate in New Zealand.
