Sok Marpha is a graduate of the Cambodian Handicraft Association (CHA).
CHA is a Phnom Penh based organisation working to empower young women with disabilities by providing them a home, lessons in handicraft, language and life skills, and a sense of community.
As a child, Sok Marpha’s future looked bleak. She suffers from polio and grew up in a household darkened by her father’s alcoholism. Her mother, starkly aware of her daughter’s poor outlook, sought to find a better life for her child.
A place at the CHA centre was an chance to change the outlook for her future and Sok Marpha grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Hard work and determination has built her knowledge and her confidence.
After graduating from CHA, Sok Marpha gained a role as a child carer in Phnom Penh city allowing her to support herself.
