How to become a fair trade faith group

It’s easy!

Download this PDF on becoming a fair trade faith group and about the products available for your group to buy - from tea and coffee supplies, to fundraising using Trade Aid food products.

  1. Introduce the topic of Trade Aid at a service or the appropriate congregational meeting.
  2. Make the case for fair trade and suggest how to easily purchase supplies. We recommend ordering direct from the Trade Aid warehouse. We have an online ordering system which you can sign up to here. Trade Aid has a DVD on fair trade as well as some display materials that may be useful, and many Trade Aid shops can provide speakers to talk to your congregation.
  3. Arrange a special morning tea for your group or congregation so they can taste the difference.
  4. Once you have general agreement pass a resolution or make a formal agreement to become a Fair Trade Faith Group. Suggested wording: "…[your church/faith group name]... agrees to become a Fair Trade Church/Faith Group by serving fair trade tea and coffee [you might like to add hot chocolate and sugar] whenever possible at our events and promoting fair trade."
  5. Then sign up to become a fair trade faith group and receive a certificate confirming your Fair Trade status.
  6. You might like to appoint a contact person with responsibility for keeping your group informed on fair trade matters.
