Product Code: 09.01.9679
Stone work is a traditional craft in the Agra area of India. The soapstone used is left over from a mining process about 300km from Agra. Raw stone is cut, roughly polished and then finely polished before carving and engraving is carried out. The extracted dust from this process is collected and sold to other industries, such as for the manufacture of talcum powder, chalk and tile grout. The master craftsman stone carver uses a small sharp tool and with graceful deft movements, an intricate design appears on the stone.
