NEW Social Studies Units - Level 1 - 5 - free resource for teachers

Trade Aid is focussing on environmental justice for 2008/9 and Trade Aid shops will be organising local community events for you and your students to get involved with. Use these newly produced lesson plans and then get involved in your community and support the environmental justice message.

Teaching unit 1
This unit centres around the question:

  • 'Do your toys have a good or bad effect on the people who make them and on their environment?' and 'What can you do?'

Teaching unit 2
This unit centres around the question:

  • 'Why does being rich or poor make a difference to the way you may be impacted on by environmental degradation?'

Both units cover similar themes but unit 2 takes a bigger picture approach incorporating climate change and carbon footprints. Extension activities incorporated into both units are aimed at extending the scope of the topic and encouraging deeper thinking for older or more advanced students.
