    The driving force behind MINKA (which in Quechua means ‘working together for the mutual benefit of all’) is the desire to create self sustaining and economically viable communities, whilst enhancing employment and social opportunities for men, women and, ultimately, their families. In a society in which the men regularly leave their families in search of work elsewhere, such enterprise is vital not only for economic development but also social cohesion and, through this, stability, confidence, autonomy and dignity.

  • CENFROCAFE

    A coffee co-operative based in Jaen, in the Cajamarca region of northern Peru. The 1800 producers who make up the co-operative seek through their association to collectively improve their quality of life, putting a high priority on their children’s education.

  • COCLA

    An organisation of 7,500 coffee producers in the Quillabamba region of eastern Peru. The group have implemented numerous healthcare, educational, quality improvement and sustainable agriculture programs with the aid of extra income from fair trade sales.
