Located in the Gayo Highlands of Aceh province, in northern Sumatra. A region generally rife with political conflict, this ethnically diverse co-operative provides infrastructure development (roads, schools, mosques and water supplies) and small-loan facilities for the benefit of its members. Extra income through fair trade helps farmers to sustainably manage the production of organic coffee in the buffer zone to the environmentally-significant Gunung Leuser National Park.
