  • Anamika Bhattachariya is 23 years old and is deaf. She started a one year course in computer graphics 5 months ago and her dream is to be a graphic designer. Anamika is top of her class.
  • Tanmoy Thakwrata molding a rose candle in the candle production area.
  • Supriya Chatterju showed us all kinds of moulds used to make different shaped candles.
  • Sarmistha Gurung is 24yrs old. She is new to Silence and came through the training course. She makes jewellery.
  • Nibedita Banerjee is 29 years old. She is a teacher of the training courses and has been working with Silence for 7 years. She also works with the product development team and helps them come up with and perfect new designs.
  • Sarmistha Banerjee is 33 years old. She is blind and deaf. She has no mother or father and her only living relative is a brother who has no interest in her wellbeing. She has been working at Silence for 18 years now and through this employment is able to pay rent to stay at a guest house. Silence trained her in many areas including reading and writing since she had no formal education. Sarmistha also learnt to use a computer. She can write her name and wrote it for me on the piece of paper in the picture. Sarmistha now works in quality control and is very good at her job because she can feel rather than see the irregularities.
