  • Godavari Delta Women’s Lace

    A cooperative of 300 lace makers, very poor and mostly illiterate, who by managing their own production and marketing, have been able to escape the unscrupulous middlemen who used to take all the profits for themselves.

  • Palam Rural Centre

    A community self-help group of lowest-caste Indians based in Tamil Nadu. Traditionally leather-makers, the group has diversified into soap production in order to find stable markets for its products. With fair trade income, Palam has been able to provide schooling and medical care for its members, as well providing a cleaner water supply for its 100 member families.

    A women-only institution which seeks to provide dignified employment for its members at fair rates of pay. Through fair trade, Shri Mahila helps many rural Indian women to earn sufficient wages from the production of products (including poppadoms) to enable them to become self-reliant and self-confident, and to thereby improve their status in society
